Tasmanian Defence Industry Strategy

The five-year Tasmanian Defence Industry Strategy 2023 sets the framework for increasing the share of the high value defence market held by local companies.

With planned national defence spending alone sitting at $195 billion and worldwide allied defence spending coming in at trillions of dollars, the strategy aims to grow our capabilities in education, advanced manufacturing, IT and defence focused businesses, as well as help more Tasmanian businesses enter this market.

Following on from our first strategy launched in 2016 it builds on our considerable list of achievements in encouraging and facilitating the establishment of new defence opportunities in Tasmania and the growing number of local businesses signing significant defence supply contracts.

With the support of the Tasmanian Defence Advocate and guidance from the Defence Industry Advisory Committee we will continue to pursue opportunities to grow this niche sector.
