United Kingdom – September 2023

The UK Trade and Investment Mission was jointly led by Tasmania’s Defence Advocate, Rear Admiral (Rtd.) Steve Gilmore and Coordinator General John Perry in September 2023.

The United Kingdom (UK) is identified in the Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019 - 2025 as a priority market for focused industry engagement. The mission focussed on strengthening existing relationships and fostering new partnerships, with the mission building connections with key international partners and securing new opportunities for Tasmania’s defence supply and advanced manufacturing industries.

As part of the mission, Tasmania’s defence industry capabilities were on display at one of the largest security and defence expos in the world, Defence and Security Equipment International convention (DSEI). DSEI featured more than 2800 suppliers and buyers from across the globe which gave Tasmanian businesses, as part of Team Defence Australia, the chance to showcase their capabilities to leaders from military, government and industry.

The mission also included meetings and site visits with major defence and advanced manufacturing companies including Ocean Infinity, Thales UK, L3 Harris, QinetiQ, Collins Aerospace and Hanwha.

The Tasmanian delegation included:

  • AERIUS Marine
  • Australian Maritime College
  • CBG Systems
  • Currawong Engineering
  • Echoview
  • Fortifyedge
  • Liferaft Systems Australia
  • Muir Engineering
  • Pivot Maritime International
