Department of State Growth

Work and life balance

The Department of State Growth recognises that a work, life balance is important and encourages the benefits of work flexibility.  We understand that you may need different options to support you with different stages of life, personal circumstances or changing goals.

All our roles are flexible which means that all roles have an element of flexibility within them and managers are willing and open to discuss what this flexibility looks like considering business and individual needs and ensuring client service delivery.

Flexibility can take on different forms in different roles, so talk to us about what flexible work arrangement you would like us to consider in your role.

General leave options

We have many types of leave available to support you through various life events and help you to maintain a healthy work-life balance. These include annual leave, personal leave (including carers), a state service accumulated leave scheme, leave without pay, long service leave, compassionate and bereavement leave, family violence leave, defence leave, emergency service leave and purchased leave.

Employees with family responsibilities now have greater choice in balancing their working lives with caring for their young children.  Parental leave, including adoption, partner and paid (where eligible) and unpaid maternity leave is available to all employees.

Employee Assistance Program

The department is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our people through the provision of a free and confidential Employee Assistance Program.

Mental health and wellbeing

We offer a range of events, initiatives and resources throughout the year to support our people to manage their mental health and wellbeing (both in and out of the workplace).

Salary sacrifice

We offer salary sacrifice payment options, the most common of which are superannuation and novated vehicle leasing. Click here for more information.

Superannuation

The Department of State Growth contributes superannuation in line with legislation requirements, to a complying superannuation fund of your choice.

In additional you can make personal contributions (after tax) or salary sacrifice (pre tax) contributions to your chosen fund.

The default superannuation fund for the Tasmanian State Service is Spirit Super.
