Skills Tasmania

Skills Tasmania is responsible for the management and administration of Tasmania’s vocational education and training (VET) system.

Skills Tasmania plays a critical role in building the capacity of Tasmania’s workforce, assisting learners to access training and build skills and knowledge through VET, and supporting business and industry through workforce development, programs to enable growth, and by providing access to funding for training and skill development.

Skills Tasmania administers the Tasmanian traineeship and apprenticeship system and provides access to funding for training through endorsed Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and Group Training Organisations (GTOs).

The system also has targeted programs to help people that need support to be work-ready or face personal, physical or social barriers find a job and stay employed.

The Department of State Growth, through Skills Tasmania, invests in skills and workforce development as it supports our economy to become more productive, be innovative and to compete on the global stage. It is also critical in ensuring a pipeline of skilled staff to fill new jobs being created.
