Economic value of Tasmania’s defence and national security sectors

In 2020, the Department commissioned an independent report by SGS Economics and Planning for the economic value of the Tasmanian defence and national security sectors.  As at 2018-2019 (base year for all data except for ADF personnel, where actual head counts is at 1 July 2019) the total impact (direct and indirect) of the ADF in Tasmania were valued at $45.6 million and $143.7 million for businesses and suppliers delivering to defence locally, nationally and internationally. This gives a total defence sector value estimated at $189.3 million and national security production estimate at $22.5 million or $211.8 million in total.
