Critical safety issue - Compulsory recall of Takata Airbags

On 28 February 2018 the Australian Government announced a compulsory recall of vehicles fitted with defective Takata airbags.

Worldwide there have been 24 fatalities and over 266 serious injuries due to the faulty airbags.

All vehicle owners should check the Takata airbag recalls list to see if their vehicle is affected.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact their manufacturer or dealer as soon as possible to have their airbags replaced.

Affected Takata airbags must be replaced however the ‘Alpha’ model has a much higher chance of misdeployment and poses a greater safety risk. If your vehicle is fitted with a Takata Alpha airbag do not drive the vehicle and contact your vehicle manufacturer immediately to have the airbag replaced.

A list of frequently asked questions can be found on the Product Safety Website.

If you are unsure if your vehicle is affected please contact the vehicle manufacturer or an authorised dealer.
