Submissions invited for Solar Feed-in Tariff Review

As part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to deliver secure and reliable electricity supply and lower the cost of electricity for Tasmanian households and small businesses, the current Solar Feed-in Tariff is being reviewed.

The aim of the review is to provide the right conditions and incentives to encourage further take up of solar, while ensuring Tasmanians who have already installed solar are suitably rewarded.

Rooftop solar generation currently accounts for less than one per cent of electricity generation in Tasmania. More solar will assist Tasmania in diversifying its renewable energy capacity and help deliver the Government’s target of achieving 100 per cent self-sufficiency in renewable electricity generation.

The Solar Feed-in Tariff review will be carried out by a committee comprising the Director of Energy Planning, the Department of State Growth and the Department of Treasury and Finance.

It will consider a range of matters including incentives for installing solar generation, variable pricing between peak and non-peak periods, the contribution of rooftop solar to Tasmania’s energy security, and whether opportunities to benefit from rooftop solar are available equitably across the community.

Submissions will be accepted until Monday, 6 August 2018.
