New guidelines to encourage medium-density housing
New guidelines have been released, offering designers, developers, and the community practical advice on achieving high-quality medium-density housing, such as terraces, townhouses and low-to-mid-rise apartments.
Developed under the 30-Year Greater Hobart Plan, the Medium Density Design Guidelines aim to encourage greater housing diversity and liveability, ensuring more Tasmanians can find a home suited to their specific needs, life stage and budget.
The guidelines include best-practice principles for site layout, building form, open space, privacy and integration with existing streetscapes.
They were informed by engagement with experts from across industry and government, including planners, developers, designers and architects, as well as community consultation.
The release of the guidelines supports the recent commencement of the Density Incentive Grant Scheme, which offers grants of $10,000 per dwelling for developers building eligible medium or high-density housing projects.
