Artsbridge 2019-20 (July 2019)

The Artsbridge program supports:

  • Individuals and groups to take up national or international activities
  • Individuals, groups and Tasmanian organisations to bring arts professionals to Tasmania to conduct creative and/or professional development activities.

The Minister for the Arts has approved funding of $32 102 to ten new projects in this round.

Funding recommendations were made by expert peers drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.


Adam Ouston - $6 000 towards Costume Australian Galleries and Theatres Tour 2019

Burnie Arts Council - $2 990 towards Mary Hark and the Art of Papermaking – Tasmanian Workshop 2020

Dexter Rosengrave - $2 660 towards attending Berlin Art Week in Germany and the ‘light | sensitive | material’ photography conference at University of West London

James Edwards - $ 2 900 towards a residency at the Foundation University, Dumaguete City, Philippines

Joel Fenton - $ 3 000 toward a Dance Theatre Professional Development Program in Sydney

Kathleen Melbourne - $ 2 600 towards bringing Indigenous performer/maker Kirk Page to Tasmania for workshops and Long table

Kim Jaeger - $3 000 towards participating in Vitalstatistix Hart’s Mill Residency & Vitalstatistix Adhocracy 2019

Michelle Boyde - $2 952 towards Hypnapod at Monash University

Scott Turnbull - $3 000 towards performing at ANTI festival Finland and SICK! Festival UK

Tullia Chung-Tilley - $3 000 towards attending City of Contemporary Dance Festival and The Stance Hong Kong

Feedback from the expert peers

The peers gave the following feedback to help current and future applicants:

  • Discuss your application - even if you have previously applied for funding - with a member of Arts Tasmania’s Grants Team. Guidelines can change from round to round and it is important to make sure your information is up to date.
  • Write in plain English and avoid unnecessary artform specific language or jargon.
  • Proof read all parts of the application before submitting.
  • Consider artist wages and fees as part of your budget.
  • Make sure artistic support material is recent and relevant to your application.
  • Letters of support should be targeted and specific to your application. A good letter of support should also show strong and genuine enthusiasm for your project.
  • Clearly show how your project will benefit your practice or the wider community.
  • Include accessible timelines that are clear, easy to read and that show all the activities in your project.
