Arts Tasmania

Tasmanian Aboriginal Arts Mentorship Scheme 2023-24

This program supports young and emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal arts and cultural practitioners to undertake projects that enable them to further their careers, enrich their artistic practice and contribute to Tasmania's arts sector.

A delegate for the Minister of the Arts has approved funding of $10,000 to support an Aboriginal artist to undertake mentorship activities.

Funding recommendations were made by expert peers drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.

Feedback from the expert peers

The peers were supportive of applications that clearly spoke to the benefits for the artist as well as the broader Tasmanian Aboriginal community.

  • The peers noted that the stronger applications included:
    • names of any artists to be involved/approached or an outline of the processes in place for choosing artists
    • letters of support from any mentors/collaborators
    • a clear and concise description of the activity
  • Applicants were encouraged to include context for previous stages of the project (if applicable) or information about how this activity fits into a broader timeline of work.

The peers encouraged applications to future rounds from emerging and early career artists of any age seeking to develop their arts practice and enhance their career progression.
