Tasmanian Aboriginal Arts Mentorship Scheme 2022-23

This program supports young and emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal arts and cultural practitioners to undertake projects that enable them to further their careers, enrich their artistic practice and contribute to Tasmania's arts sector.

A delegate for the Minister of the Arts has approved funding of $30,000 to support emerging Aboriginal artists to undertake monitorship activities.

Funding recommendations were made by expert peers drawn from the Cultural and Creative Industries Expert Register.

Grants

Brooke Robinson - $10,000 towards a mentorship for a children’s book

Emily Robertson - $10,000 towards a creative arts mentorship

Keia McGrady - $10,000 towards a professional development mentorship with Performing Lines Tasmania

Feedback from the expert peers

The peers discussed the overall quality of the applications and made the following comments:

  • Stronger applications included:
    • relevant artistic material such as examples of work that directly related to the proposed mentorship activities
    • letters of confirmation from planned collaborators and mentors
    • a detailed plan for the mentorship
    • a clear explanation of the goals and possible outcomes for the mentorship.
  • The peers were supportive of applications that clearly spoke to the benefits for the artist as well as the broader Tasmanian Aboriginal community.

The peers encouraged applications to future rounds from emerging and early career artists of any age seeking to develop their arts practice and enhance their career progression.
