Matthew Richardson

Matthew Richardson is one of Tasmania’s finest and most loved footballers. Matthew was the archetypal modern footballer. At 197 centimetres and with speed, endurance and great athletic ability Matthew was the heart and soul of Richmond’s forward line for well over a decade.

He played 282 games for his beloved Tigers following in the footsteps of his father Alan who also played for Richmond. He led the club's goal kicking thirteen times and was selected in the All-Australian Team three times - in 1996, 1999 and 2008. His 800 career goals currently sees him eleventh on the all-time list of AFL/VFL goal kickers. He also took a staggering 2,270 marks during his AFL career.

In 2008 Matthew played mostly on the wing and finished 3rd in the Brownlow medal.

In 2007 he won Richmond’s best and fairest award and is a member of both Richmond’s and Tasmania’s teams of the century.

In 2015 he was made a Tasmanian Football icon.
