200% Tasmanian Renewable Energy Target

As the national electricity industry transitions away from older fossil fuel generators such as coal power stations, Tasmania is in a unique position to produce more of the renewable energy needed for a cleaner world.

We are now the first Australian state (and one of few places globally) to achieve 100 per cent renewable electricity generation. That means our island will make enough clean power to meet all of our current electricity needs.

And yet, we can do more.

That’s why we’ve legislated a new Tasmanian Renewable Energy Target to double our renewable energy production and reach 200 per cent of our current electricity needs by 2040.

This will secure our industry and guarantee low-cost, reliable, and clean energy for all Tasmanians. At the same time, we’ll have enough renewable power to share with mainland Australia, moving the entire nation in the direction of positive change.
