Hire and Drive Reimbursement Program launched
The increase in visitation has put significant demand on the Tasmania’s rental vehicle market, at a time when operators are re-establishing their fleets that were depleted due to COVID-19.
A new funding program has been announced which is designed to increase the supply of rental vehicles in Tasmania.
The Hire and Drive Reimbursement Program (HDRP) will provide eligible applicants with grants of $1 000 per vehicle to cover upfront costs associated with registering a vehicle for hire and drive purposes (i.e. upgrading to a MAIB Class 8 registration). As well as supporting hire and drive operators to re-establish their fleets, the program aims to encourage vehicle owners to sign-up their vehicle/s to accredited car sharing platforms, Car Next Door and Evee.
The program is open until 24 December 2021, or until available funds have been exhausted.
