Tourism Innovation Grant Program

Applications now closed and being assessed

The Tourism Innovation Grant Program is designed to assist existing and prospective Tasmanian tourism and hospitality businesses to realise projects that will increase and expand visitor demand to the broader benefit of the sectors.

The program’s intention is to support the development of new or improved tourism products and experiences that will:

  • Generate visitation,
  • Create strategic business benefit for the tourism and hospitality sectors, and
  • Assist in the development of contemporary and competitive Tasmanian tourism offerings which are consistent with the goals of the T21 Visitor Economy Recovery Action Plan to increase visitor spending, grow the value of regional tourism and support new employment opportunities.

Grants of up to $1 million are available with a minimum application value of $50,000. A total of $8 million in funding has been allocated to the program.

Applications are a two-step process.

The first step is filling in an eligibility form through SmartyGrants. Please note that applicants can’t access the full project proposal application form until their eligibility is confirmed. Your application will be reviewed by THS and confirmation supplied via email. The email will contain a link to the full project proposal application form. The deadline for the project proposal application form is 4pm Friday 8 April 2022. Please note, the eligibility check will take up to 5 working days to complete.

The second step of the program, project proposal submission, is open until 4pm on Friday 8 April 2022.

All applications will be assessed following the closing date. No late submissions will be accepted.

    To be eligible for a grant you must meet all eligibility criteria outlined below. You must establish that you:

    • Are an existing or prospective provider in either accommodation services, attractions or experiences, tours and/or cruises
    • Are a Tasmanian operated and/or owned business located in Tasmania in the above sectors
    • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and are registered for GST
    • Are financially solvent
    • Can demonstrate your financial contribution towards the project (if applicable)
    • Are not receiving Tasmanian Government funding for this project already
    • Applicants must meet all of the eligibility criteria outlined in the guidelines.

    Please note that meeting all the eligibility criteria does not guarantee you will receive a grant. Applications that meet the eligibility criteria will be assessed competitively.

    3. Supporting our people - business owners
    4. Shaping our future

    Rebuilding visitation to the state requires a supply of new visitor products and experiences to increase regional dispersal and repeat visitation to the state. The program seeks to encourage existing and prospective businesses in Tasmania’s tourism sector to realise innovative projects.
