Member 2016

Tasmanian rower Scott Brennan studied and trained hard to achieve international success as a rower while studying for medical degree. Scott rowed for St Virgil’s College and Guilford Young, and the Lindisfarne Rowing Club and experienced exceptional success in international junior and senior rowing competition.

In 2001, Scott competed at the World Junior Championships in Germany and came second in the Junior Men’s Singles Scull. In 2003, he won the men’s single scull at the World Under-23 Championships in Serbia.

Scott made his Olympic debut as a 21-year-old competing at the Athens Olympics in the quadruple sculls, where they placed seventh.

Despite suffering a significant injury in 2007, Scott staged a comeback to compete in the Australian men’s double scull for the World Championships in Munich.

Scott won the Olympic gold medal in the men’s double scull with David Crawshay at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. As a rowing partnership, Scott and David placed second in the World Cup in Lucerne, in 2012, and third at three other World Cups.

Scott also represented Australia men’s double scull at the London Olympics in 2012.

A persistent back injury resulted in Scott’s decision to retire for competitive sport. Rowing was a huge part of Scott Brennan’s life for 20 years. Upon retirement it felt like a huge part of his identity had gone. Fortunately, Scott had a medical career to take rowing’s place and he also volunteers at Camp Quality.

Rowing, however, is not far from Scott’s life. His wife, Kim Brennan (nee Crow) won the gold medal in the single scull the Rio Olympics in 2016.
