Kylie June Risk

Member 2009 - Born 28 November 1973

Starting her athletics career with the Eastern Suburbs Club in the strong Southern Athletics Branch competitions, Kylie rose through the junior ranks winning many state track titles on the way.

She was a quiet achiever, but had a fierce underlying determination to succeed. Kylie was not a great fan of track running but it was in this discipline, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, that she won a silver medal in the 10 000 metres. This was her best international achievement.

It was in cross country events that Kylie was best credentialed as an athlete, finishing in the top 30 on five occasions at world championships.

Cross country is generally regarded as the toughest discipline competitively and attracts the greatest depth of talent in the world athletics circuit.

At a national level, Kylie won three cross country titles and was runner up once.

On the track she won three silver medals in the 5,000 metres and a gold, two silver and a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres.

In 1999, Kylie won the famous Sydney City to Surf race and to date holds the second fastest female time on record for this 14km event.

At the local level, she has won the City to Casino Fun Run on no less than 10 occasions, making her the most successful female ever in this event.

Kylie still holds Tasmanian records for both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres and is ranked number five on the Australian all-time list for 10,000 metres.

Kylie's outstanding achievements have been recognised previously within her sport, winning the Athletics Tasmania Athlete of the Year on six occasions and being named the Athletics South Top Female Athlete from 1954-2004 (50 years).
