Kim Walker

Member 2014 - Born 14 December 1975

Born in Devonport, Kim is a great example of how a combination of skill, hard work and dedication enabled her to reach the highest level of her sport.

Kim has an exceptional record.

She represented Australia 172 times making her debut for the Hockeyroos in the Tri-Nations in Argentina in 1998.

A versatile player with very good natural speed and great levels of fitness, Kim could play as a striker, in the midfield or as a wing half.

Her story is one of great persistence as it took her several years to establish herself in the national side.

However, once established, she became one of the Hockeyroos’ most valuable players and in 2007 was voted Hockeyroos’ Player of the Year, an award that was voted on by the nation’s top hockey coaches.

She won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and represented Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In total Kim represented Australia at eight major championships between 2005 and 2008 that included not only an Olympic and Commonwealth Games but also four Champions Trophy tournaments and two World Cups.

She represented the Tasmanian Van Demons in the Australian Hockey League in five tournaments and the Western Australian Diamonds in ten tournaments being voted Western Australian Diamonds Player of the Year on five occasions.

Kim is one of Tasmania’s finest hockey players.
