Kate Hornsey

Kate Hornsey is a three-time World Champion rower, dual Olympian and Olympic Silver Medallist who started rowing at the age of 12 at New Norfolk on the Derwent River.

Kate competed at multiple World Championships achieving success from the outset. In 2005 Kate was a member of the winning crews in the Women’s Four and the Women’s Eight at the World Championships. She was also a crew member of the Women’s Eight that won the Munich World Cup that year.

In 2006 Kate had a successful year winning gold in the Women’s Four and bronze in the Women’s Eight at the World Championships. At the Munich World Cup, Kate was a member of the Women’s Eight and Women’s Pair that won bronze in both races.

Kate was selected for the Beijing Olympics in 2008 where she rowed in the Women’s Eight which placed sixth. In 2008 this same Eight won the World Cup in Munich and were second in the Lucerne World Cup.

In 2010, Kate was selected in the Women’s Four and won silver at the World Championships in Karapiro, New Zealand. In 2011 she again won silver in the Women’s Four and bronze in the Women’s Pair at the World Championships.

Kate’s biggest achievement was being selected for the 2012 London Olympics where she crewed with Sarah Tait and won the silver medal in the Women’s Coxless Pair.

After retiring from competitive rowing, Kate became a mentor to the Tasmanian Women’s Eight and continues to support rowing at a state and national level.
