Hollie Grima

Hollie Grima was an outstanding basketball player for Australia and an ambassador for Tasmania and the sport of basketball.

Hollie left the State as a 16-year-old grade 10 student and accepted a scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), in Canberra. The AIS awarded Hollie the Bob Staunton Memorial Scholarship for the most outstanding male and female player at the AIS in 2002.

During her first two years at the AIS, Hollie was selected to play for the Australian Junior National Basketball team, the Gems, in 2000.

In 2002, Hollie won a bronze medal with the women’s national team, the Opals, at the World Championships.

Hollie was the member of Australian women’s basketball teams that achieved success by winning the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games Melbourne, in 2006; silver at the Olympic Games, in Beijing, in 2008; and won the Oceania Championships in 2009.

In 2006, Hollie was a member of the Australian Women’s Basketball team to ever win the gold medal at the Women’s World Championships.

Hollie was the only Tasmanian female to be awarded the Basketball Australia Junior Female Players Award (2002).

Hollie was awarded the Basketball Australia International Player of the Year – Maher Medal in 2005 and 2010. The Maher Medal is awarded to the women’s senior national team player who receives the most votes after each game, with the votes tallied each year.
