Data Centres

Tasmania’s competitive position is strong for data centres serving the Asia-Pacific as well as the Oceania region providing a stable and secure operating environment, access to low cost and sustainable energy, a strong data protection framework, access to skills and readily available plots of industrial land.

Data centres store, manage and process digital data within a specialised facility, and underpin modern day ICT services. With the world relying ever more on cloud-based services, most everyday functions – searching the internet, online banking, ticket reservations – require some form of data centre somewhere in the world.

Tasmania provides an exceptionally strong proposition for data centres. Our island state offers a stable and secure operating environment, with a low risk of natural disasters and lower ambient temperatures than the Australian mainland. In addition, with Tasmania having reached the enviable position of generating 100 per cent of its electricity needs from renewable sources, companies looking to access cleaner energy can do so at some of Australia’s lowest wholesale energy costs.
