Taxi fare changes from 1 November 2022

Standard taxi fares across Tasmania will increase on 1 November 2022, recognising the increasing cost pressures being felt by taxi operators.

The fare increase, only applied to the distance component of the overall fare, meaning only a minimal change for passengers. The distance component increased by five per cent.

As a practical guide, passengers will pay an additional:

  • $0.40 for a trip from the Hobart CBD to Wrest Point
  • $1.72 for a trip from Hobart CBD to the airport
  • $1.35 for a trip from Launceston CBD to the airport
  • $1.76 for a trip from Ulverstone to Devonport.

Importantly, those with a Taxi Smartcard through the Transport Access Scheme, which assists those with permanent and severe disability, continue to have their taxi fare discounted by 50 per cent up to $25.00 per trip, or 60 per cent up to $30.00 per trip for travel in a wheelchair accessible taxi by a wheelchair-reliant passenger.

This is only the second increase in the past seven and a half years, with the previous five per cent increase in February 2021 offset by an equal reduction in credit/debit card payment surcharges.
