Cultural and Creative Industries Recovery Strategy launched

The Tasmanian Government understands the importance of Tasmania’s vibrant cultural and creative sector, and today I am proud to announce the launch of the Cultural and Creative Industries Recovery Strategy: 2020 and Beyond.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cultural and creative industries was one of the fastest growing employment sectors in Tasmania.

The intention for this Recovery Strategy is to support our sector and encourage innovative ways of working and communicating the value of the Arts sector to the Tasmanian community as it recovers from COVID-19 and beyond.

The 2020-21 State Budget confirms our Government’s strong support for our cultural and creative industries by providing an additional $4 million funding for the arts, including:

  • $2.5 million over two years for an arts and cultural support fund to support artists and arts organisations who have not been able to earn the income they had planned due to cancelled engagements and terminated contracts through the COVID-19 period, and to produce new work for new markets;
  • $1 million over two years to support a brand new program of Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) to deliver long-term improvements in social health and wellbeing through partnerships - that address health, disability, justice and education priorities - between the arts and community sectors; and
  • $500,000 over two years for Screen Tasmania’s Screen Innovation Fund, to drive the production of strategically important film and television projects in Tasmania, by leveraging investment from outside Tasmania.
