Tsunami modelling and observation reports released

MRT has released two new reports on the potential impact of tsunamis on Tasmania's coastline.

The first report: Tsunami inundation modelling for the east coast of Tasmania, was prepared by MRT for the Tasmania State Emergency Service. The objective was to perform tsunami inundation modelling of critical-but-credible tsunami/high-tide scenarios to determine the effects on an area covering 300 linear kilometres of Tasmania's coastline.

The second report: Observations and effects of the January 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai tsunami in Tasmania, is the result of collaboration between Mineral Resources Tasmania, the Tasmania State Emergency Service and the University of Tasmania. The primary focus of this report was to collate and document the physical observations and instrumental records of wave heights, tsunami arrival times and human experiences of tsunami activity that reached the Tasmanian coastline on the15th of January 2022.
