UTAS Stadium Redevelopment

We’re improving the UTAS Stadium in Launceston so we can be part of, and host, elite sporting events.

The UTAS Stadium at York Park has a strong history of hosting great sporting events since 1921 and is an iconic precinct in Tasmania.

This transformation will attract national sporting events to Launceston, supporting the City of Launceston’s vision to make the city a premier business, retail and lifestyle hub.

Stage 1

The first stage of this transformation will deliver a contemporary facility in the heart of Launceston, securing Tasmania’s sporting future.

The redevelopment will be influenced by the Australian Tier 2 Level Stadium requirements and will include features such as

  • An enhanced experience for fans and audiences
  • a range of seating options including improved corporate spaces
  • spectacular sightlines from the ground, as well as screen and television
  • new training and match-day facilities for competing athletes.

The project team is engaging with key stakeholders and users of the Stadium to discuss the redevelopment.

A tender has been open for an architectural design team, and an appointment will be announced mid-2022.

Stage 2

The second stage of the UTAS Stadium precinct redevelopment will pursue the creation of an indoor multi-sport facility. This was included in the City of Launceston’s Future Directions Plan for the precinct. It proposes to:

  • be capable of hosting a variety of sports including basketball, futsal, and netball
  • have indoor training and recovery spaces.
