Update to theatre and cinema capacity limits
On 16 December 2020 the Premier announced a relaxation of capacity limits for theatres and cinemas across Tasmania.
Theatres and cinemas will be able to seat up to 75% of normal capacity, up to a maximum of 250 people. This came into effect from Monday, 21 December 2020.
Larger venues with capacity to seat above 250 people at 75% capacity will need to seek approval through the Events Framework process. This is to make sure that appropriate mitigation controls are in place to manage larger (and therefore higher risk) gatherings.
Applications for larger venues will be considered on a case-by-case basis for performances from 1 February 2021. Information about applying will be made available in early January 2021.

The above information has been provided in advance of the formal Public Health Direction and is subject to change.

The Tasmanian Government has also announced the intention to establish a program to share the risk with arts producers for live performance in theatres. Further details will be made available in the New Year.
