Department of State Growth

New Zealand - July/August 2022

For many Tasmanian exporters, New Zealand is a strong, mature, and familiar market. The New Zealand integrated Trade Strategy is a commitment of the Tasmanian Government’s 100 Days Plan to grow export opportunities in New Zealand. The 100 Days Plan commitment gives recognition to the near-term opportunity to strengthen Tasmania’s goods and services exports.

From 31 July to 4 August 2022, the Hon Jo Palmer MLC, on behalf of the Tasmanian Premier as Tasmania’s Trade and Tourism Minister, led a tourism and trade mission to New Zealand.

This was the first overseas trade mission undertaken by the Tasmanian Government since the outbreak of COVID-19.

The focus of this mission was to reengage the New Zealand market to further grow existing exports and provide a new opportunity for emerging exporters, seeking to diversify beyond the domestic market and leverage the growing Tasmanian brand in New Zealand.

The Minister led a 55-member delegation that included 41 business and industry delegates.

The mission comprised of five business streams:

  • Advanced Manufacturing, Defence and Maritime
  • Agribusiness, Agritourism, Emerging Exporters and Food and Beverage
  • International Relations and Resources
  • Space, Science, Technology and Antarctic, and
  • Tourism.
