Horticulture

The Tasmanian Government is committed to continued collaboration with the horticulture sector. Following consultation with the sector’s peak industry bodies, key horticulture businesses and trading partners, the sector has identified the following priorities:

  • Increased brand awareness of Tasmanian horticulture products
  • Expansion of markets
  • Support for freight and logistics
  • Market access
Priority markets
  • Domestic mainland Australia
  • China and Hong Kong SAR
  • Japan
  • Singapore
  • Other ASEAN
Actions
  1. Collaborate with Tasmanian horticulture exporters to identify opportunities to promote Tasmanian horticulture products in priority markets.
  2. Support the horticultural industry to grow market and export opportunities through the Fruit Growers Tasmania Inc’s Trade Facilitation and Export Hub Program grant.
  3. Support the horticultural industry to establish a specific pest- and disease-free registration system through the Tasmanian Fruit and Vegetable Export Facilitation Group’s Trade Alliance Program grant.
  4. Facilitate the delivery of a horticulture sector trade and international relations roundtable with industry associations.
  5. Support research into the premiumisation of commodity horticulture products.

It is important to note that these sector specific initiatives should be considered in context of the Tasmanian Trade Strategy Annual Action Plan 2021 which includes a number of broader actions which also support the sector.

Disclaimer: These initiatives will be delivered over the next 12 months if there are no changes in Government policy due to COVID-19. This is a living plan. The Tasmanian Government will continue to engage with industry to determine actions and priorities.
