Awards and prizes

Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) Music Awards
The awards honour those composers and songwriters who have achieved excellence in their craft over the previous year.

The Australian Music Prize (AMP)
An organisation established to encourage, reward and promote Australian music of excellence. Each year an Australian artist or group is awarded the AMP, receiving a $30,000 cash prize in recognition of the outstanding creativity they exhibited, based on an original album released in that year.

Membership organisations and peak bodies

Australian Society for Music Education (Tasmanian Chapter)
Aims to encourage and advance music education at all levels, as both an integral part of general education and community life, and as a profession.

Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS)
Collects and distributes licence fees for the public performance and communication of its members’ musical works, and collects and distributes mechanical royalties for the reproduction of its members’ musical works.

Australasian Music Publishers' Association
A representative body of music publishers in Australia and New Zealand.

Australian Music Centre
A service organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting the creators and performers of contemporary classical, improvised jazz, experimental music and sound art in Australia.

Australian National Choral Association
A non-profit organisation set up to encourage and promote choral music in Australia.

Australian Network for Art and Technology (ANAT)
Australia’s leading cultural organisation working at the intersection of art, science and technology, including networked and emergent art practices, experimental music and sound arts, and mobile and portable platforms.

Australian Recording Industry Association
An advocacy group for the recording industry, nationally and internationally.

Australian Songwriters Association
Supports the promotion and recognition of Australian songwriters.

Commercial Radio Australia
The national body that represents commercial radio in Australia.

Country Music Association of Australia
A national peak industry body representing and promoting all aspects of the Australian country music industry, managing annual awards, industry research and professional development.

Music Tasmania
Tasmania’s peak contemporary music body that provides support, promotion and networking opportunities for contemporary musicians.

Musicians Union of Australia
Negotiates awards and conditions, rates of pay and represents musicians at all levels of government and industry.

Phonographic Performance Company Of Australia
A national, non-government, non-profit organisation representing the interests of record labels (licensors) and Australian recording artists.

Australian National Academy of Music
The Australian National Academy of Music is the country’s only national, purely performance-based music training institution, bringing together fine young musicians for an intensive year-long program of study, training and performance.

The Australia Youth Orchestra
An innovative training organisation for young pre-professional musicians. It offers tailored training and performance programs for aspiring musicians, composers, arts administrators and music journalists aged 12 to 30 years.

Australian Independent Record Label
A non-profit, non-government association dedicated to the growth and development of Australian independent artists, record labels and distributors across Australia and around the world.

Contemporary Music Touring Program

South by Southwest
Based in Austin, Texas, this event features a conference, tradeshow, parties and showcases from 1,500 artists. It is a place to network, discover new music and be discovered.

The Seed Fund
Established by John Butler, it aims to help Australian artists develop themselves as self-sustained, professional artists.

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO)
The TSO enjoys a high profile nationally and internationally, through its world-wide broadcasts and award-winning recordings. It offers comprehensive education and training programs which play a crucial role in bringing orchestral music to young listeners and developing the skills of promising performers, composers and conductors.

Triple J Unearthed
Allows unsigned artists to upload their music and be heard by the public. It also allows listeners to create playlists, submit reviews and download podcasts.
