White Ribbon Workplace
What is White Ribbon?
White Ribbon engages men to highlight the role they can play alongside women to stop violence against women, based on the understanding that most men are not violent.
White Ribbon Australia’s vision is “a nation that respects women, in which every women lives in safety, free from all forms of men’s abuse”. Their mission is to make women’s safety a man’s issue too.
State Growth as a White Ribbon Workplace
The Department of State Growth is strongly committed to creating an inclusive workplace that embraces diversity and values equality and respect. State Growth has a culture of zero tolerance towards any form of violence, including family violence, and takes active steps to prevent and respond to violence as well as to change the attitudes and behaviours that allow violence to occur. The Department takes an active role in supporting employees and their families by providing a workplace that promotes their safety and offers the flexibility and assistance to support them to live free from violence.
On 9 October 2018, the Department received White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation following a rigorous 18-month process to demonstrate commitment in preventing and responding to men’s violence against women. At the time of accreditation, State Growth had achieved the best accreditation performance from 175 organisations currently accredited across Australia. This innovative and outstanding approach to the accreditation criteria, particularly with regards to internal communications, engagement, policy development and communication, manager training, risk assessment, support for victims and our approach to continuous improvement, makes State Growth a proud White Ribbon leader. State Growth will now leverage these efforts further to continue to support our people and actively contribute to the broader cultural change that is occurring in the community towards addressing men’s violence against women.
Through State Growth being recognised for its strong stance in response to men’s violence against women, it not only demonstrates what we stand for as an organisation but allows us to encourage the industries and businesses we deal with as a department to take the same stand with our support.
A special thanks to all the members of the Tasmanian State Service White Ribbon Interagency Working Group for their support during our workplace accreditation period, particularly the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.
