East Asia trade and investment mission
The trade and investment mission to South Korea and Japan made substantial progress in advancing Tasmania’s economic diplomacy and profile in the South Korean and Japanese markets.
The visit, in February 2017, was the first Tasmanian government-led mission to those markets since Australia’s free trade agreements with South Korea and Japan came into effect. It took place against year-on-year growth in the nominal value of the State’s merchandise exports to Japan (up 19.7 per cent) and Korea (up 9.2 per cent) in the year to December 2016.
The key event in Japan was Taslnvest: a business matching and investment attraction event which capitalised on the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (AEPA). TasInvest created new opportunities for Tasmanian businesses to access Japan's business networks and leveraged existing Japanese investments in Tasmania.
Participating delegates from Tasmania’s food and beverages sector, education and training, freight and logistics, tourism and agricultural industries reported positive outcomes resulting from the mission.
